2/6: The Inaugural Step towards UX Crafting

Armed with the pillars and fundamentals of UX, our group of young designers revisited the basics of their design studies, immersing themselves once more in the foundational elements of various design disciplines.

They revisited graphic design, where the communication the information is done with visual language. Product design and its metaphorical articulation of how form meets function. Ergonomics emphasized user comfort. Instructional design brought seamless collaboration of multiple media forms and the elements of design curated the composition and hierarchy, all together, they form the building blocks in weaving the narratives of visual communication because they know the importance that all the design disciplines not only enrich the thinking abilities but also essential like alphabets that enable multiple perspectives.

Beyond the basics, they embraced sustainability, adding long-lasting and impactful value. They explored cognitive psychology, gaining an understanding of user behavior and perception. They mastered advanced problem-solving, refining a systematic and logical thinking approach. By adopting industry best practices, they stayed on the cutting edge. This holistic approach empowered them to tackle UX challenges from diverse angles

In doing so, they ensured they were not only fully prepared but also filled with unwavering confidence, poised and ready like a finely-tuned rocket, set to explore the boundless space of UX design.

Their unwavering confidence stemmed from their holistic approach, knowing that they were not confined to a single field. Their mindset embraced a holistic perspective, a driving force that made them feel unstoppable. Their understanding went beyond theory; practical application was the next logical step to unveil their passion and determination, propelling them toward their eagerly awaited first major challenge.

As the moment arrived, they faced the task of redesigning a complex legacy application. This application was from a time when digital interfaces were just beginning to develop. Back then, the focus was mainly on enabling technology, but the industry had evolved. The emphasis shifted towards user-friendly interfaces. Our designers understood this shift, but their client, still holding on to old practices, found themselves on the brink of bankruptcy. They turned to these passionate designers for help.

This challenge was no small feat, but armed with their diverse knowledge, the designers were prepared to tackle it. Their first step initial research, a meticulous examination of the existing system through heuristic and critical observation and knowing about the users, laid the cornerstone of their entire design process. It constituted a quest for comprehension, an unwavering determination to comprehend not only the system's functionality but also to grasp how users interacted with it and pursue the purpose and objectives of both the system and its users.

Hand in hand with users and system experts, they delved deeper. They sought to understand the users' hopes and the system's intricate details. How did users navigate this digital realm? What were their dreams and frustrations? With each revelation, the picture grew clearer, drawing them closer to their ultimate design.

At the same time, they turned their attention to the competitive landscape, studying market trends and analyzing rival strategies. Their goal was not just good design, but design excellence.

In their creative space, a symphony of artifacts took shape. An empathy map became a canvas painted with emotions and perspectives, showing their commitment to understanding the user's world. An affinity map followed a carefully streamlined content, ready to guide their way. At the heart of it all, the user personas stood tall, reminding everyone of the human element that must never be forgotten. These artifacts, born of empathy and analysis, brought their mission to life.

Their journey had just begun, and the story was still unfolding. Equipped with their diverse perspectives and determination to create outstanding user experiences, they were set to leave their mark in the world of UX design.
